‘Hammerin’ Hank Lundy is confident of emerging victorious when he takes on Nigeria’s Olusegun Ajose next Friday, July 19, in the United States of America.
Top junior welterweight contender Ajose will be hoping to take one step closer to another world title opportunity when he takes on the highly-rated American in the main event of a series of bouts scheduled for the historic 107-year-old Rockingham Park in New Hampshire.
Ajose, rated number three by the World Boxing Council in his weight division, was originally scheduled to fight Mercito Gesta instead of Lundy. Gesta, a former lightweight contender, however pulled out of the fight with a rib injury, opening the door for the bout with Lundy, who is looking to bounce back after suffering an unanimous decision loss to Victor Postal back in March.
The 33-year-old Ajose last fought on April 20, when he scored an eight-round unanimous decision over Rynell Griffin. But 29-year-old Lundy is so confident about his bout with Ajose that he already has plans for the future.
“I’m already in shape,” Lundy said. “I’m getting ready to fight. I’m just getting ready to rumble.
“After this fight we are going after Lucas Matthysse, and then the number one guy, the champ, Danny Garcia.
“After I win this fight on the 19th, I’ll be number two in the world. Matthysse says that me and him are supposed to fight due to some stuff that happened.
“But I’ve been fighting and waiting to show the world that ‘Hammerin’ Hank ain’t no joke,” added Lundy, who has a professional record of 23 wins, two losses and a draw, with 11 knockouts.
Ajose, meanwhile, has a record of 31 wins, 18 of them via KOs, and a solitary loss, which was inflicted on him by Matthysse late last year.
The Ajose-Lundy bout will be broadcast live on ESPN.
