Yobo remains Eagles skipper, says Keshi

Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi has declared that Joseph Yobo will continue to serve as the national team’s skipper, even if the Fenerbahce of Turkey defender hasn’t featured for the national side since the last Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Yobo, the Super Eagles’ most-capped player of all-time, has fallen down the pecking order behind the duo of Godfrey Oboabona and Kenneth Omeruo, and has missed all seven games the national team has been involved in since the conclusion of the Cup of Nations in February.
As a result of his exclusion from the Super Eagles, Yobo reportedly had a spat with Keshi. But speaking at a media interaction at the national team’s Bolton White Apartments camp in Abuja on Wednesday, Keshi insisted he still has a lot of respect for Yobo because of what he has done for the nation.
He was however quick to add that he cannot call up the former Everton defender only to keep him on the substitutes’ bench.
“It will not be fair to invite Yobo to the national team and ask him to be on the bench,” said Keshi. “It will be a huge disgrace and I won’t be part of that.

He added: “When the team needs him he will be recalled and will definitely start as captain even if along the line we substitute him.”
